Inspirations

On Duty – Ruhl Plage, Nice was inspired by countless visits to Ruhl Plage in Nice, where I became fascinated not only by the iconic blue-and-white striped parasols, but also by the quiet choreography unfolding around them. While most people come to relax by the sea, I found myself equally drawn to the individuals working within the landscape, their everyday routines becoming part of the visual rhythm of the beach. As both an artist and designer, I'm drawn to the bold graphic contrasts, rhythmic geometry and expansive Mediterranean horizon, using them to transform everyday observations into a contemporary interpretation of life on the French Riviera.

Creative Process

Like much of my work, On Duty developed over months of returning to Ruhl Plage throughout the year, observing how the light, colours and atmosphere shifted from season to season. Working from my own photographs and sketches, I reimagined the composition before painting the final artwork in acrylic on canvas, emphasizing the iconic blue-and-white striped parasols and the strong graphic dialogue between horizontal and vertical forms. Created as a companion to Off Duty – Ruhl Plage, the two artworks explore how different realities unfold simultaneously within the same landscape, where work and leisure exist side by side, often unnoticed. Rather than depicting Ruhl Plage literally, On Duty distills the colours, geometry and atmosphere that make this corner of the French Riviera so distinctive.
