Hi, I'm Alex — artist, creative director and founder of AWOL.
Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. After nearly 20 years shaping brands and visual stories around the world, I created AWOL as a place where my lifelong art practice, passion for design and storytelling, and love of travel could naturally converge.
Short for Absent Without Leave, AWOL is where art, design and exploration meet.
My work begins with immersion. I walk unfamiliar streets, observe light, sketch, photograph and collect moments that later become paintings, drawings, collage and mixed-media works.
It's an invitation to slow down, wander, and see the world with fresh eyes—a celebration of light, colour and memory.

About the collections
The first step in my art process is travel. I immerse myself in the sounds, colours, textures and energy of each place I visit — sketching, drawing, taking photographs and videos, collecting beach pebbles and even taking selfies with donkeys (!) along the way. I soak in all the inspiration and let it simmer. Eventually, these experiences and impressions come to life through my art. Each collection, like each place, is unique - I select and curate the mediums, colours and textures of each new artwork to best reflect the mood and vibe of each destination. The result is a personal and artful interpretation of the beautiful landscapes, moments and experiences that marked my heart.
