Hi, I'm Alex — artist, creative director and founder of AWOL.
Every place leaves a mark. My work begins with discovering what stays behind.
Through painting, drawing and mixed media, I transform lived experiences into contemporary artworks inspired by light, colour and memory. Rather than documenting places, I immerse myself in them—wandering, hiking, swimming, rollerblading and sketching—before distilling, simplifying and reworking what stays with me into carefully curated, layered compositions that capture the essence of being there.
After nearly two decades as an award-winning designer and creative director, visual storytelling continues to shape the way I observe, simplify and reframe the places, people and moments that leave a lasting impression.

My Process
Travel isn't the subject of my work. It's my creative process.
The first step in every collection is immersion. I return to places that inspire me again and again—on foot, by sea and through quiet observation—as the changing light, colours and atmosphere reveal a different side of each place. I let those experiences settle before they find their way into my work.
No two places are the same, so neither is my approach. I carefully curate the colours, materials and visual language of each collection to capture not simply how a place looks, but how it feels. The result is a personal interpretation of the landscapes, architecture and moments that have stayed with me long after the journey ends.
