Between the Waves
Between the Waves is an original contemporary Mediterranean landscape painting inspired by long summer days spent in the sea along the French Riviera. Layers of deep Mediterranean blue, rolling waves, a small sailboat and bold coastal forms create an imagined Côte d’Azur landscape somewhere between reality and memory.
The idea came from spending so much time in the water this summer, watching the coastline appear and disappear with every passing wave. From sea level, the view is constantly shifting — a boat emerges, a headland disappears, then another fragment of landscape reveals itself. The painting brings together elements inspired by Cap de Nice, Cap Ferrat, Cap d’Antibes and Cap Martin, not to depict one specific view, but to distill the experience of being out there, between the waves.
Created with acrylic and hand-painted paper collage on canvas, the work combines simplified forms, layered textures and bold colour to capture the rhythm, movement and playful unpredictability of the Mediterranean Sea. An original piece of French Riviera art shaped by summer, water and the fleeting views that only exist for a moment before the next wave rolls through.
