Inspirations

I travelled to Bilbao, Spain to be inspired by its modern design, innovative architecture and traditional and modern art collections, as part of my yearly inspiration trip to a European design capital. Although I had travelled to Spain many times in the past, this was the first time I visited the northern Spain Basque region.

On this art and design inspiration trip, my mission was to feast on modern design, architecture, and urban innovation in this modern design destination. .

The Guggenheim Bilbao Museum is a building like no other. The materials and technology used to create it were truly a feat of innovation blending different disciplines, technology and creativity so that the final building could reflect Gehry's creative vision (and his initial sketches), of an organic abstract structure inspired by a boat entering the city harbour.

The interplay of volumes, shapes, lines, light and the balance between the interior and exterior is an immersive experience like no other, that left me awe-struck, inspired and hopeful. Frank Gehry's building reminds us all that there truly are no limits to what we can achieve, build and create.
