Into the Blue is inspired by years of exploring the Mediterranean on foot, by car, sailboat, motorboat and paddleboard—while hiking, running and swimming my way along the coastlines of the French Riviera, Italian Riviera, Croatia, Corsica, Sicily and Greece. From every vantage point, across changing seasons, shifting light and countless destinations, I collected memories, impressions and moments that gradually found their way into this artwork.

Rather than documenting a single place, I wanted to capture the feeling of being on the Mediterranean—the freedom of setting sail, the exhilaration of moving across the water, the warmth of the sun, the ever-changing winds and the endless shades of blue that connect these remarkable coastlines. Reduced to its most graphic elements, the composition celebrates movement, exploration and the quiet joy of discovering the Mediterranean from every possible perspective.

Creative Process

Into the Blue evolved through multiple layers of painting, drawing and collage before reaching its final form. Inspired by years of sketching while travelling, I began by simplifying my favourite Mediterranean landscapes into bold geometric forms and a carefully balanced composition, reducing the scenery to its essential colours, shapes and movement.

For the original artwork, I combined gouache, acrylic, pen and ink, coloured pencils, soft pastels and oil pastels, gradually building the composition through layered marks, textures and washes of colour. Rather than recreating one specific coastline, I assembled fragments collected across many journeys into a single imagined seascape, allowing memory and imagination to guide the final composition. Once the artwork was complete, I carefully photographed it and refined the tonal range, colour and contrast to faithfully preserve every detail in this art print.
