Morning Rollerblade Views, Nice is a contemporary art print inspired by one of the French Riviera's most iconic cityscapes. Featuring a windswept palm tree, the Alpes-Maritimes mountains and the colourful façades of Nice's Promenade des Anglais beneath a dramatic sky, it captures the light, movement and unmistakable atmosphere of the Côte d'Azur.

Inspired by my early morning rollerblade rides along the Promenade des Anglais, the artwork reimagines this familiar landscape through memory rather than observation. The palm tree, mountain backdrop and Mediterranean city are simplified into bold graphic forms, celebrating one of my favourite daily rituals and the unique beauty of the French Riviera.

Inspirations

Inspired by daily runs, rollerblading sessions, and walks along the Promenade des Anglais, this artwork is a celebration of the unique beauty and atmosphere of Nice. Painted during the winter months, it reflects a moodier side of the French Riviera, when strong sea breezes bend the palm trees and dramatic skies deepen the colors of the landscape. I find winter to be the most beautiful season on the Côte d'Azur, as the shifting light, changing weather, and quieter coastline reveal a more dramatic side of the Mediterranean while retaining its distinctive magic. The changing colors of the sea, the elegant architecture along the waterfront, and the Alps rising in the background come together to create a landscape that feels both vibrant and timeless. Through simplified forms, bold geometry, and a fresh coastal palette, Palm Tree on the Promenade captures the enduring charm of life on the French Riviera.

Creative Process

Rollerblading, running, and walking along the Promenade des Anglais are part of my daily morning ritual in Nice. Through a series of sketches, I developed a composition that brought together some of the details I love most about this stretch of the French Riviera: palm trees swaying in the sea breeze, the elegant architecture lining the promenade, the turquoise Mediterranean, the Alps rising in the distance, and the bold geometric lines found throughout the city's contemporary streetscape.

The artwork was first developed through sketches before being painted with acrylic on canvas. Once the painting was complete, I created the palm tree separately using hand-painted paper. It was then carefully cut by hand with an X-Acto knife and assembled onto the canvas using a collage and decoupage technique. This layered process adds texture, depth, and a handcrafted finish while emphasizing the graphic forms and clean lines that are central to my work.
