Off Duty – Ruhl Plage, Nice Art Print

Bring the relaxed spirit of the French Riviera into your home with Off Duty, a contemporary wall art print inspired by the iconic blue-and-white striped umbrellas of Ruhl Plage in Nice. Featuring a man relaxing on a beach bed overlooking the Mediterranean, this artwork celebrates the light, colour and long summer days of the Côte d'Azur, making it a timeless addition to modern, coastal and travel-inspired interiors.

Inspired by countless visits to Ruhl Plage throughout the year, the composition brings together vivid Mediterranean blues, crisp white stripes, graphic geometry and the azure sea with the relaxed atmosphere of a summer on the French Riviera.

Whether displayed in a living room, bedroom, office or vacation home, Off Duty brings a fresh, contemporary touch of the Mediterranean to coastal interiors and modern homes. It pairs beautifully with the companion artwork, On Duty – Ruhl Plage, as well as other colourful French Riviera and Mediterranean wall art prints in the collection, creating a curated display inspired by travel, slow living and the sea.

Inspirations

Off Duty was inspired by countless visits to Ruhl Plage in Nice, where I always find myself equally captivated by the iconic blue-and-white striped umbrellas and the lives unfolding beneath them. As both an artist and designer, I'm drawn to the bold graphic contrasts, rhythmic geometry and the horizon where the sea meets the sky, and the way they frame moments of everyday life along the Mediterranean. Rather than depicting a single scene, the artwork brings together memories, observation and the unmistakable atmosphere of the French Riviera.

Creative Process

Like much of my work, Off Duty developed over months of returning to the same place in different seasons. Working from my own photographs and sketches, I reimagined the composition to emphasize the interplay of horizontal and vertical planes while creating a visual dialogue with its companion piece, On Duty – Ruhl Plage. Together, the two works juxtapose moments of leisure and work unfolding within the same landscape. Combining the vivid blues and windswept Mediterranean of winter and spring with the relaxed mood of summer, when the artwork was painted, Off Duty is not a literal depiction of Ruhl Plage, but a contemporary interpretation that captures what it feels like to spend time there.
