Stranded in Èze was inspired by what appeared to be a flawless summer day on the French Riviera. After a morning of stand-up paddling, my friends and I found ourselves unexpectedly stranded at a beach club overlooking the Mediterranean. As lunch arrived, they shared the news that they had both just lost their jobs. Their tears unfolded against a backdrop of deep blue sea, striped parasols and brilliant sunshine—a surreal contrast between personal grief and the beauty surrounding us.

That moment stayed with me. It reminded me that even in places that seem like paradise, life continues to unfold with all its joys and hardships. Rather than documenting the scene literally, this painting explores that tension, celebrating the hypnotic beauty of the Mediterranean while quietly acknowledging the human stories that exist beneath its idyllic surface.
