Inspirations

I used to teach yoga at a studio by the water in Verdun,
Montreal; we practiced stand-up paddle yoga, as well as yoga and meditation. Before the city woke up, we would breathe, move and flow in the morning calm, surrounded by nature, the sound of birds, and the stillness of the water – while further away commuters were starting their days, en route to the urban frenzy of city living. To me, this artwork is about peaceful,
open hearted moments of dawn and dusk, urban zen and mindfulness we would carve for ourselves outdoors (in parks, by lakes and the river), in Montreal’s glorious summer months: the light soft, the breeze fragrant, carrying the smell
of fresh vegetation and the sound of birds and crickets.

There’s nothing more grounding than  feeling your bare feet touching the dewy grass, and moving to the sound of nature – even in a thriving urban city. Connecting to silence, stillness and gratitude. Bliss.

Creative Process

This minimalist landscape artwork was hand painted with gouache and acrylic paint on paper, and then layered painted paper cutout shapes on top in a mixed media collage. The yoga silhouette was hand drawn on the final mixed media artwork with black ink.
