Inspired by many visits to Paris, this drawing began with the recurrent experience of standing directly beneath the Eiffel Tower and looking up in awe.

We're so used to seeing the tower from a distance, rising above the Paris skyline. I wanted to explore it from another perspective — looking closely at the intricate iron structure, the solidity of its base and the sweeping arches overhead. From below, something so familiar suddenly becomes monumental, graphic and almost abstract.

The original Eiffel Tower drawing was created by hand in black pen and ink on paper. I used intricate, overlapping lines to capture the architectural structure while keeping the spontaneity and imperfections of the original sketch.
