    This blue, graphic Portugal artwork was inspired by the architecture, art and design I discovered while traveling across the country, from its North to
    its South. From the bustling streets of Lisbon to the historic charm of Porto, the fairy tale streets of Coimbra, the authentic grit of Setúbal, and the
    sun-drenched Algarve region, my journeys revealed layer upon layer of Portugal’s artistic heritage.

    As a lover of graphic design and print design, I
    was especially drawn to the craftsmanship of traditional azulejo tiles and the bold, geometric patterns that decorate walls and interiors across the country. The symmetry, repetition, and precision of these artful geometric motifs resonated deeply with my passion for design. Whether wandering through narrow alleyways, admiring ornate facades, or studying tiled compositions from a speeding train, I found endless inspiration in Portugal’s seamless blend of history, art, and visual storytelling.

    Creative Process

    I drew the window details using black ink on
    paper, using a crosshatching drawing technique to capture its contrasts. In my art studio, I painted a blue background with watercolour, gouache, and acrylic to
    evoke the feeling of being suspended between the sky, sea, and white buildings. To enrich the piece, I collaged hand-painted azulejo-inspired patterns onto the blue wall, blending modern minimalism with an authentic Portugese aesthetic.
