    Inspirations

    My inspiration for this plant art was nature. Intrigued by all the unique tropical flowers, leaves, plants and landscapes I discovered over many hikes in beautiful lush destinations travelling around the world and while living by the Mediterranean coast, I became obsessed with the beauty of the simple (sometimes giant) shapes of succulent plants, cactus plants, agave leaves (to name just a few) and so many others I can't name. The beauty of nature never fails to amaze and inspire me. I wanted to create a series of abstract plant art that is transports this natural beauty indoors in a modern artistic interpretation.

    Creative Process

    This abstract plant artwork was created while I was painting another botanical artwork inspired by nature. I painted large plant compositions with black ink on paper. First I drew the plant shapes, then I painted them in black ink, and then I cut them out using decoupage techniques. When I finished the process, I fell in love with the graphic cutouts on the leftover paper, which had the painted brush strokes around the outlines, surrounding the empty spaces. I collected all the large cutout papers that remained and I layered them testing various combinations. Once the final composition was in place, I pressed all the painted plant layers together between two sheets of glass to create a large textured artwork, and a unique artistic interpretations of plants. I photographed it, then I finalized and edited the art digitally so it could be reproduced as a large print, while still keeping its tactile layered effect.
