Inspirations

I explored the Italy's beautiful Amalfi coast on foot, car, train and boats, travelling from Naples to Sorrento before moving on to the coastal towns of Positano, Amalfi, Atrani, Ravello and Praiano. Along my walks, hikes, boat rides, gelato and limoncello breaks, my sketchbook was a constant companion.

This black and white Amalfi coast drawing artwork is my interpretation, in one image, of the essence of so many breathtaking snapshots imprinted in my heart, condensed into a few key elements: towns and villas impossibly perched on vertical cliffs, overlooking the incredibly endless blue sea, and an overwhelming sense of beauty revealing itself around every bend in the road, turn of a hiking trail, or boat steering around a coastal bend.

Creative Process

The first step in creating this Italy travel artwork was, of course, travelling to the Amalfi Coast. I quickly sketched many seascapes, landscapes and snapshots that inspired me during my travels, in my travel sketchbook. When I returned home, the final artwork was hand drawn using an ink pen on large premium paper. I photographed the final composition, cleaned up the details and enhanced the contrasts to ensure its reproduction into a high quality framed art print.
