This abstract wall art on canvas is a modern, minimalist abstract artwork conveying the beauty of nature in a modern composition with the interplay of graphic, bold black shapes contrasting against a soothing neutral colour palette made of olive green, olive green warm white and beige. Inspired by many hikes in magical mountains and terrains around the world, from Colombia to Colorado, Sicily, Greece and The Canary Islands, the Pyrenees, and Alps to the  Mediterranean basin, I wanted to depict the impressive,  majestic size and scale of nature: sloping cliffs, giant boulders perched in precarious places, and the stability of elements that have stood the test of time and endured weather conditions and shifting continents for millions of years.

 And of course, the first step in the  creation of this modern canvas print were years of travel to beautiful places around the world, gathering inspiration, wanderlust and being continually blown away by the creativity and resilience of nature.

Inspirations

This bold, simple abstract artwork is the culmination of hundreds of hikes and explorations to beautiful mountains, seaside and island trails with unique landscapes around the world, including (but not limited to): Sicily, Colombia, Canary Islands, France, Italy, Greece, Colorado, Argentina, Spain, The Pyrennees, Alps, and the Mediterranean basin.

I am constantly inspired and awestruck by the views, horizons, endless sky, land and sea, rock formations, and sheer heights and scale of nature's forces at work. Over millions and billions of years, she moulded and shaped the elements into the seemingly solid forms we see with our eyes and touch with our senses, yet which are ever changing, shifting and evolving.

I gave myself the artistic challenge of simplifying the essence and spirit of these experiences, views, and feelings down to the simplest forms and composition.

The slim canvas has an approximately 2cm /0.8" thick wood stretcher bar, while the thick canvas has an approximately 4cm /1.6" thick wood stretcher bar. Both options come with hanging hardware included for easy installation.

Colored edges are not supported

The canvas substrate uses a coated fabric: a blend of cotton and polyester, providing a weight of approximately 300-350gsm/110-130lb cover and a thickness of 350-400 microns, giving you a sturdy and durable product.

A hanging kit with hanging hardware is included for easy installation.

To ensure no damage during transportation, the canvas print is shipped in protective packaging and a strong box.

Creative Process

This minimalist wall art print on canvas was originally created mixed media: acrylic paint on canvas for the base, paper painted with black ink, and decoupage technique for the cutouts, which were then precisely collaged onto the canvas.The first step in creating this large abstract wall art was travels. I hiked, I saw, I survived vertiginous cliffs and and mountain slopes that dropped down for miles. Then, in my sketchbook, I simplified the lines and shapes of recurring nature elements down to graphic lines, compositions and shapes, until I was happy with the overall effect, and reached a final composition that evokes height, just enough danger, endless horizons, and the balance of straight lines and organic shapes, creating a harmonious blend of elements, just like in nature. I then painted the olive background and the warm white background using acrylic paint on canvas, and tape to created the frame effect and straight lines, and many layers to achieve a richness and depth of colour.

I then used black ink on thick paper stock to created the graphic shapes, and used paper cutout techniques known as decoupage to isolate them. As a last step, I used collage techniques to create a textured artwork, layering paper collage onto painted canvas, before varnishing the canvas to protect the paint and seal in the artwork. As a last step, I photographed the original artwork, and using digital design software, did final edits, boosted contrasts and prepared the artwork to be replicated in its current art print form, ensuring the colours and strong contrasts translated perfectly into a canvas print.
