Inspirations

My inspiration for this modern beach landscape diptych art were landscapes seen from the sea along the Mediterranean coastlines on the French and Italian Rivieras, where the snowy Alps rise up majestically over the sea, and the shorelines are dotted with small and large towns, villas, train tunnels and suspended coastal roads.

In every season, these beautiful landscapes are dotted with tall swaying palm trees that vertically break up the horizontal juxtaposition of rolling mountain peaks and horizontal lines of shorelines of the seashores.

I wanted to create a modern, monochrome and minimalist abstraction of these Mediterranean landscapes, simplifying the scenery down to the most graphic and essential elements, creating a modern artistic wall art interpretation of the beauty and sublime scale of this Mediterranean region.

Material & Features

These minimalist wooden poster hangers are made with four magnetic wooden
dowels, two that clamp to the top of the art print and two that clamp to the
bottom to give a vintage look and feel. This poster is printed in 170 gsm/ 65
lb, uncoated classic matte paper - the perfect option to stand the test of
time.

The poster and hangers are packed separately in one box. The final assembly
is required by the end recipient. Don’t worry; it's a snap to put them together
- no expertise is required.

Creative Process

I created the original diptych landscape art using canvas and paint for the background colour of the sky, sea, and the snowy mountains. On a separate art support, I hand painted the palm trees, bridge and graphic buidlings using black paint on large art paper.

I subsequently used a decoupage technique, creating cutouts of the black and white palm trees and layering shapes on top of each other to create the rectangular buildings, windows and bridge. I glued the graphic paper shapes onto the canvas, creating a layered mixed media collage. As a final step, I varnished the canvas artwork to enhance and preserve the colours, and photographed the final diptych before digitally transferring and editing the final artwork, enhancing the colours, contrasts and highlights to ensure a sharp, premium quality, ready to hang poster print.
