I've been inspired and awestruck by the views, horizons, endless sky, land and sea, rock formations, and sheer heights and scale of nature's forces at work. Over millions and billions of years, she moulded and shaped the elements into the seemingly solid forms we see with our eyes and touch with our senses, yet which are ever changing, shifting and evolving.

I gave myself the artistic challenge of simplifying the essence and spirit of these experiences, views, and feelings down to the simplest forms and composition, creating a minimalist abstract wall art piece that can bring that nature home in a modern art style.

Material & Features

These minimalist wooden poster hangers are made with four magnetic wooden dowels, two that clamp to the top of the art print and two that clamp to the bottom to give a vintage look and feel. This poster is printed in 170 gsm/ 65 lb, uncoated classic matte paper - the perfect option to stand the test of time.

The poster and hangers are packed separately in one box. The final assembly is required by the end recipient. Don’t worry; it's a snap to put them together - no expertise is required.

Creative Process

This minimalist wall art print was created by hand using mixed media: acrylic paint on canvas for the base and paper cutouts in black ink collaged onto the canvas.The first step in creating this large abstract wall art was travel. I hiked, I saw, I survived vertiginous cliffs and and mountain slopes that dropped down for miles. In my artist sketchbooks, I simplified the lines and shapes of nature's recurring elements down to graphic lines, and bold simple shapes until I reached a final composition that evokes height, endless horizons, and the balance of straight lines and organic shapes, creating a harmonious blend of elements, just like in nature.

I then painted the background olive green and warm white using acrylic paint on canvas using tape to created the frame effect and straight lines, and many layers to achieve a richness and depth of colour.

I used black ink to paint on thick paper stock to created the graphic shapes, followed by decoupage techniques to isolate them.

As a last step, I used collage techniques to create a textured artwork, layering paper collage onto painted canvas, before varnishing the canvas to protect the paint and seal in the artwork. I photographed the original artwork, and using digital design software, did final edits, boosted contrasts and prepared the artwork to be replicated in its current art print form, ensuring the colours and strong contrasts translated perfectly into a poster art print.
