With this colourful blue and yellow poster print, I wanted to capture the beauty of these famous Mediterranean landscapes in a travel poster that evokes happy vacation vibes, brings sunshine, blue seas and a fresh colour pop to any home decor in a modern aesthetic and a contemporary yet timeless art style.

Inspirations

I created this colourful Mediterranean inspired artwork as a homage to the beauty along the Mediterranean coast, from the French Riviera down to Italy's Amalfi coast.

Memories of the sun dancing on vivid blue seas that kiss the sky, vertiginous cliffs, coastal road trips, and happy lemon groves as yellow as the sun smiling around every bend. I wanted this artwork to evoke these carefree vacation vibes, feelings of freedom, sea breezes, lightness and happiness - in a modern artwork created in a contemporary art style that would carry these travel vibes onto your wall decor.

Creative Process

The first step in my creative process is travel. I always sketch, draw and collect photographs and images in my travel sketchbook, capturing the beauty of moments and scenery that inspire me on location.

I then give myself the challenge of capturing the overall aesthetic or mood of one place - not through a literal landscape depiction, but in an artwork that summarizes the impressions that linger in my mind and heart.

This original artwork was first hand drawn on canvas using a pencil and charcoal on top of which I painted many layers of acrylic paint, layered with oil pastels for richness of colour and textural depth. I photographed the final artwork and edited it digitally, enhancing the contrasts and details to ensure the original vibrancy of the colours could be reproduced in a high quality art print.
