Inspirations

My inspiration for this 2 piece plant artwork was nature. Intrigued by all the unique tropical plants, flowers and landscapes I discovered while living and travelling around Mediterranean - and obsessed with the beauty of the simple (sometimes giant) shapes of succulents, cactus, agave (to name just a few), as well as the incredibly beautiful flower gardens and veggie gardens growing alongside lush exotic flowers, wild and domesticated plants, the beauty of nature in this region never fails to amaze and inspire me.

I even started gardening, and my happy places have become flower markets, botanical gardens, and any place where I can look at, and smell, and be surrounded by beautiful plants. I wanted to create a series of nature-inspired modern art that would bring this plant love indoors in a unique and contemporary way.

The slim canvas has an approximately 2cm /0.8" thick wood stretcher bar, while the thick canvas has an approximately 4cm /1.6" thick wood stretcher bar. Both options come with hanging hardware included for easy installation.

Colored edges are not supported

The canvas substrate uses a coated fabric: a blend of cotton and polyester, providing a weight of approximately 300-350gsm/110-130lb cover and a thickness of 350-400 microns, giving you a sturdy and durable product.

A hanging kit with hanging hardware is included for easy installation.

To ensure no damage during transportation, the canvas print is shipped in protective packaging and a strong box.

Creative Process

I created this 2 piece art series of a Mediterranean garden abstraction using a fine art mix of painting, drawing, collage and paper decoupage techniques, working on canvas for the original.

First I painted the canvas background and abstract shapes using acrylic paint and many paint layers to create a rich yet soothing colour palette. Then, on very large paper, I drew the plants and tomato, and painted them in black ink, before cutting them out using decoupage techniques.

I experimented with the placement, composition and size of the elements, testing various combinations on the canvas support. Once the final composition was in place, I glued the foreground elements to the painted abstract canvas background, and varnished the work to add richness and depth to the collage, while also protecting the paint. I photographed the final canvas artwork, and edited the art digitally so it could be reproduced as a large canvas print, while still keeping its tactile layered effect - creating a unique canvas art print for plant lovers.
