    Inspirations

    My inspiration for this abstract flower artwork was nature. Intrigued by all the unique tropical plants, flowers and landscapes I discovered while living and travelling around Mediterranean - and obsessed with the beauty of the simple (sometimes giant) shapes of succulents, cactus, agave (to name just a few), as well as the incredibly beautiful flower gardens and veggie gardens growing alongside lush exotic flowers, wild and domesticated plants, the beauty of nature in this region never fails to amaze and inspire me.

    I even started gardening, and my happy places have become flower markets, botanical gardens, and any place where I can look at, and smell, and be surrounded by beautiful plants.

    I wanted to create a series of nature-inspired modern art that would bring this plant love indoors in a unique and contemporary way.

    Creative Process

    I created this large flower abstract art print using a mix of fine art techniques: painting, drawing, collage and paper decoupage, working on canvas. This is a nature-inspired, 3 piece abstract art series that I created by hand, painting the canvas background and abstract shapes using acrylic paint and many paint layers to create a rich yet soothing colour palette. Then, on very large paper, I drew the abstract flower shape, and painted the paper in black ink, before isolating it using decoupage techniques.

    I experimented with the placement, composition and size of the graphic shapes and elements, testing various combinations on the canvas support. Once the final composition was in place, I glued the foreground elements to the painted abstract canvas background, and varnished the work to add richness and depth to the collage, while also protecting the paint. I photographed the final canvas artwork, and edited it so it could be reproduced as an art print, while still keeping its tactile, textured and layered effect - creating a unique flower art print for nature lovers, gardeners, and plant people.
