I’m always surprised, delighted and inspired by the city of Montreal—its contrasts, its unique energy, its quiet corners of beauty hidden within the pulse of the city. This minimalist artwork captures a moment of calm—and the reminder that even in stillness, there's energy and joy.

The painting was inspired by one of Montreal’s most unexpected gems: the “Vague à Guy,” a standing wave in the St. Lawrence River near Parc des Rapides. It’s a place where surfers ride river waves against a backdrop of city life, where nature and urban grit collide in the most poetic way. That contrast—motion and stillness, city and nature—is what I love most about this city. This artwork is a reflection of those quiet,
powerful moments that connect us to something bigger—a piece of Montreal, from my heart to your wall.

Processus créatif

I hand painted this nautical landscape with acrylic and gouache paint on paper, on top of which I drew the surfer with black marker. As a last step, I cut out the umbrella from another painting on paper and collaged it on top of the seascape.
