Front Row Seat | Art Print

Front Row Seat is a colourful Mediterranean beach art print inspired by the turquoise blue waters, beach life and endless summer vacations in Villefranche-sur-Mer on the French Riviera. Featuring a woman in a red swimsuit sunbathing beneath a striped beach umbrella, this contemporary beach wall art captures the vivid colours, bold graphic contrasts and laid-back atmosphere of summer on the Côte d'Azur.

During peak summer vacation season on the French Riviera, the best spots on the beach are worth getting up early for. From the elevated street overlooking Villefranche's old town and lively harbour, the sandy beach reveals itself as a spectacular sweep of turquoise blue water against the Mediterranean coastline. But down on the sand, it's a different story. The beach is packed like sardines, and finding that elusive little patch of paradise becomes something of a competitive sport.

Fortunately, this woman knows exactly how it works. Beneath her striped beach umbrella, she's claimed the perfect spot for a little sunbathing, tanning and relaxation, away from the crowds and with an uninterrupted view of the sea. The early bird gets a front row seat, after all. Beach rule #1: nobody gets to block the view. Prime beachfront real estate, secured.

Reproduced as an art print from my original painting, Front Row Seat combines vivid turquoise blues, bold graphic forms and a playful perspective on summer along the French Riviera. This colourful Mediterranean wall art brings a little seaside escapism to contemporary interiors, coastal homes and beach house decor. A modern beach poster inspired by summer vacations, sun-soaked days by the sea and the simple pleasure of doing absolutely nothing.

Inspirations

Inspired by the beautiful Mediterranean bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer on the French Riviera, Front Row Seat celebrates the colourful rituals of summer beach life: long vacation days, sunbathing beneath striped umbrellas, swimming in turquoise blue waters and the simple pleasure of doing absolutely nothing.

From the elevated streets above Villefranche's old town, the beach looks like an idyllic stretch of golden sand and sparkling Mediterranean Sea. But during peak summer, it's a different story. The shoreline fills with sunseekers, colourful beach towels and umbrellas, and finding the perfect spot becomes something of a competitive sport.

There's a particular beach strategy that locals know all too well: arrive early, claim your spot before the crowds descend and make sure nobody gets between you and the sea. It's an unspoken rule of summer on the Côte d'Azur, and this woman has clearly mastered it.

Front Row Seat is a playful tribute to that familiar summer ritual, the art of finding your own little piece of paradise amid the crowds, and the luxury of having nowhere else to be.

Processus créatif

Throughout the summer, I collect sketches, observations and fleeting impressions of everyday life along the French Riviera. From crowded beaches and colourful umbrellas to the changing light on the Mediterranean Sea, these little moments become the starting point for my paintings.

For Front Row Seat, I worked from these sketches and memories, experimenting with different arrangements and perspectives to develop the composition. I approached the final painting like a carefully cropped photograph, deliberately editing out the surrounding crowds to create an illusion of solitude in one of the Côte d'Azur's busiest summer beach destinations.

The composition focuses on a woman sunbathing beneath her striped beach umbrella, contrasting her vivid red swimsuit with the luminous turquoise blues of the Mediterranean Sea. I simplified the forms, refined the graphic shapes and balanced the negative space to capture the colours, light and relaxed atmosphere of summer in Villefranche-sur-Mer.

There's also a little ambiguity to the scene. Is she enjoying a quiet moment alone, or are those her kids splashing in the water? Is she waiting for someone, or simply enjoying a day of complete anonymity? By leaving the story open to interpretation, I wanted to capture something familiar about beach vacations: the luxury of finding your own little piece of paradise, even in the middle of the summer crowds.

Originally created as a painting and reproduced as a contemporary Mediterranean art print, Front Row Seat brings together my love of colourful coastal landscapes, graphic compositions and the everyday rituals of life on the French Riviera.
